Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid) Dan Cong
Phoenix Mountain, Guangdong, China
The most famous Dan Cong fragrance—honey and orchid intertwined in a tea that seems to defy what leaves can do.
The Story
Phoenix Mountain's Dan Cong oolongs are named for their specific natural fragrances—mimicking flowers and fruits without any added flavorings. Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid) is the most accessible and beloved, combining the sweetness of honey with orchid florals. Each Dan Cong bush is essentially unique, propagated by single trunks over generations. The Wu Dong peak produces the most prized Mi Lan Xiang, where ancient trees grow from high-altitude granite.

Brewing Tips
Dan Cong is notoriously finicky—too hot or too long and it turns bitter. The traditional Chaozhou brewing uses tiny cups and flash steeps. Smell the empty cup after drinking; the fragrance there is often more intense than the liquor. These teas can be unforgiving but reward precision.
