Wuyi Lao Cong Shui Xian
Wuyi Mountains, Fujian, China
From ancient tea trees—'old bush' Shui Xian has a depth and smoothness that only comes from decades of root growth into rock.
The Story
Lao Cong means 'old bush'—trees over 30-60 years old with deep root systems that reach far into Wuyi's mineral-rich rock. Shui Xian (Water Sprite) is a large-leaf cultivar known for its orchid-like fragrance when young, but old bush Shui Xian develops something different: a profound smoothness and mineral depth that reflects the accumulated terroir of decades. These old trees yield less tea but command reverence for their concentrated essence.

Brewing Tips
Old bush teas have remarkable stamina—don't give up after 6 steeps. The smoothness should coat your mouth like silk. If you feel astringency, steep shorter or reduce temperature slightly. This tea rewards the long session.
